Shadow Side
Within us all is a shadow side
And in this place our dark self hides
It's a place of fear, doubts & rage
That we all prefer to keep in a cage
Triggered, our shadow comes to light
Raging beast, full of fight
When the battle is won, it walks away
Back to the cage till another day
Once it's over we are left in tears
Repetitious pattern over so many years
What is this shadow, in me and you
That every so often likes to come through
What is this darkness of the unknown
Hidden within us, to the world unshown
In a vision quest I did see
This darker half, a part of me
This darkness in me, did have a face
For me it appeared as slithering snakes
Black ashen trees and thunderous lighting
Never before a vision so frightening
At first a battle I went to fight
Using my strength & all of my might
But despite my efforts they kept coming back
Striking with venom, relentless attack
What was happening, why so hard
This shadow in me, I could not discard
Exhausted from fighting I fell to the ground
They stalked me intensity from all around
Never before, my visions like this
Usually full, of wondrous bliss
As I knelt there with tears in my eyes
Clarity came, when I finally realized
These snakes represented a part of me
That longed to loved & finally set free
I looked at these snakes with love in my eyes
All this time, truth disguised
This darkness need not be fought
For they come with lessons that must be taught
So now I did not see slithering creatures
But before me, guised spiritual teachers
Looking at these teachers I finally did see
If it weren't for these lessons I wouldn't be me
For triggers come in all shapes & form
Different teachers that help us transform
So I thanked these teachers for their role
In growth & understanding for my soul
When I said, what I had to say
The snakes retreated & slithered away
In that moment in the darkness of night
The heavens opened to a shimmering light
Ashen trees turned emerald green
And flowing rivers like I'd never seen
The desert landscape seen at night
Now radiated brightly loves guiding light
So much was understood that reflective day
Of how we all hide our shadows away
Embrace your shadow & send it light
And react with love instead of spite
For darkness has its purpose too
To help you see the inner you
For Shadow selves play their role
Reminding us, that we are whole...
